One of the nomimees was a well known figure with a reality TV Show, following all his moves and whereabouts.
TV has so many reality programs. But how "real" is that "Reality TV" nowadays ?
It is really scary where everything is going. Gone are the restrictions, all is just to shock people. The more shocking, the better.
Take "Big Brother" for example. At the beginning, it was a program which showed some people locked up and had to do some games. Back then there was still some fun and everything seemed genuine.
Today, they want people who can be shocking. Have arguments, tell their most intimate secrets,... they go even as far as film them as they sleep !! What's next ?
This has become sheer voyeurism. About 10-20 years ago, you could be jailed for this or at least have a severe penalty. Now the people sending this out gain so much money.
What do the contestants get out of this ? Do they get paid ?
So many shows have come up where people have to vote who goes through. American Idol, X-Factor, Britain's\America's got talent, etc... All these shows have one thing in common : you phone to vote. for which you pay and they receive your money. Allthough these shows do have good entertaining value, (once they get to the final stages), these shows get lots of money for peanuts.
Once I had the papers for one of those shows. When reading it, it turned out to be nothing more than a contract. A contract for which I would get nothing and they would receive everything.
Carefully reading EVERYTHING, I got to point 17, section B. Two words in one sentence : "Expoit" and "Exploitation". In short, if I would have gone through with this, whatever I would do during my initial audition, the producers of the show would OWN all the rights of MY acts. In other words, if they would not like me, they could decide to use someone else, have that person perform MY act. They would then also have the rights to have this person perform for large audience and cash in.
"Entertainment" has become big business which, unfortunately, have made it harder for a lot of people to break through. However, it also motivates talented people to find alternate ways to perform on a large scale and show what they can do.
Youtube organised last year auditions for musicians. People could vote online. The winners where flown over to New York and where they would perform together in a one-off performence. People attending the show where allowed to film this event and put it online afterwards.
What will be next ? An all-round entertainment show ?
There is still hope for good entertainment.
