In our society we have been putting elderly people in homes. Gathering all the older people put them together and call it a rest home.
As I said it last time, it isn't always easy to take care of an elderly parent. But how easy was it for them to take care of us? One day we leave home, only to return and put our parent in a rest home awaiting the end...?
Putting all elderly people together sometimes seems a bit macabre. All people just awaiting the end...
I guess that's the reason I don't like to visit rest homes that much. A couple of weeks ago at work, there were a bunch of people on holiday. They were smiling, enjoying and full of life. A thank you here and a thank you there. It was such a joy to work with them.
It is nice for people of their generation to gather and enjoy life; it is a different thing once they are put together.
True, taking care of someone 24/7 can be hard, but yet again, how difficult have we been when we were young.
Last week another group was at the hotel. One elderly woman seemed paralysed, she was in a wheelchair, could no longer speak. They had to carefully spoon her food, once in a while it almost dripped out, or she was coughing.
I take my hat off for those who cared for her. Only later I found out it were her children who did. They said it was not that hard. I guess it never is that hard when you take care of a loved one, though not everybody has the same patience.
