A couple of weeks ago I saw this homeless person looking into the dustbins of a tearoom. Suddenly took something out, a half eaten sandwich. Seeing this really shocked me, but what shocks me most is there is so much thrown away, when so many people have nothing to eat.
When going to a Chinese, we often took the rest in a take away box. Quite often people look at you when you're asking to take the rest with you. But why should they? First of all, you've paid for what you have on your plate and if you leave it, it finds its way into the bin.
Restaurants of course cannot keep the food to give to guests. On the other hand, when too much has been prepared and still unused, there is nothing wrong with that food. Once I noticed a basket with several little breads in it, untouched. I can’t help but think about that person I noticed at the tearoom... looking in the bins.
