Getting old(er)... 03/21/2011
Several cultures deal with age in different ways. Many cultures regard and treat their elders with respect. In our western society, elders are treated, more often than not, as children. We tend to forget or dismiss the life experience they have. They are considered senile even before they really are. Elderly people can sometimes be difficult, but they still are people. They are the ones who taught us lots of things. And quite often still remember things which we forgot. Sometimes small details which seem unimportant, but had an important impact in life, whether our own or someone else's. They made their mistakes, as do we. Their way of apologizing isn't always recognizable or is not being recognized. Older people get dismissed so easily... but we can not dismiss getting old.
